Radio 1′s Cooper to address commercial rivals

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper is to address commercial radio leaders at the RadioCentre’s annual conference. Twitter UK sales director Bruce Daisley will also be among the speakers at the half-day event, which will look at radio’s future and its place in the digital economy and take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 3 at London’s Westminster Bridge Park Plaza Hotel immediately ahead of the Arqiva Awards. The conference will also include a discussion on digital radio chaired by the BBC’s outgoing media correspondent Torin Douglas and featuring Digital Radio UK chief executive Ford Ennals, while the whole event will be overseen by Classic FM and Heart presenter Margherita Taylor.

Sande’s record breaker heading out of Top 10

Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events looks like dropping out of the UK Top 10 this Sunday after spending a record-breaking 66 weeks there for a debut album. The Virgin release set the longest consecutive run by a debut album in the Top 10 in April as it surpassed the previous best of 62 weeks set by The Beatles’ Please Please Me in 1964. However, Sande’s album now appears poised to leave the Top 10 this coming weekend having fallen 8-16 in the Official Charts Company’s latest midweeks

Evans to continue fronting Sony Awards

Chris Evans has been confirmed to host the Sony Radio Academy Awards for the next two years. The Radio 2 breakfast show DJ’s continuation in the role was announced by the event organiser The Radio Academy with Evans himself commenting: “I love hosting the Sonys – it’s a great awards ceremomy and also a great event that I’m very proud to be a part of.” He took over as presenter of the annual event from Paul Gambaccini in 2009 and fronted the 2013 ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel last Monday.

Live Nation sells Foxwoods Theatre to UK’s ATG

Live Nation has sold the Foxwoods Theatre in New York to Lyric Theatre, LLC, a subsidiary of Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG). The Foxwoods Theatre will become the 40th theatre in the ATG portfolio and the UK company’s first theatre in the United States. Ticketing for the Foxwoods Theatre will continue to be provided by Ticketmaster

Absolute sets out summer plans

Absolute Radio has unveiled a live content and marketing strategy for this summer, promising its listeners, “We’ll take you there”. The Absolute Radio Live strategy will comprise exclusive interviews, live music programming and competitions, including coverage of the June 14 to 16 Isle of Wight Festival where Absolute is the official broacast partner. As part of this its presenters Pete Donaldson and Sarah Champipn will front a series of outside broadcasts from the festival site over the weekend, while Paul Weller’s set on the Friday (June 14) and Ben Howard’s on the Saturday (June 15) will go out live and uninterrupted on air.
