Guardian’s New band of the day to hit the Great Escape festival

New acts featured in Paul Lester’s daily music column will join acts such as Temper Trap and Alabama Shakes on three-day bill A number of additional acts have been announced for the Great Escape festival in Brighton, as well as three Guardian New band of the day gigs. The Temper Trap , S.C.U.M and Gaz Coombes join the previously announced Lianne La Havas , Mystery Jets and Alabama Shakes and 300 other acts for the three-day festival. Taking place at 30 venues throughout Brighton from 10 to 12 May, the Great Escape is traditionally seen as a showcase for new bands and a scene-setter for the rest of the summer

HMV confirms buyers interested in live music business

Struggling music retailer hopes to sell operator of Hammersmith Apollo and Kentish Town Forum to pay off some of its debts HMV, the struggling DVD and music retailer, has confirmed it has received approaches from several potential buyers for HMV Live, the music venue business it acquired two years ago. US billionaire Philip Anschutz, whose AEG empire includes the O2 Area in the Docklands area of London, is reported to be among those interested. Also said to be circling are Academy Music Group, which runs the Brixton Academy and Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and Peter Dubens’s Oakley Capital, which last year took a controlling interest in Time Out

With lineups including David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, the Darkness, Emilé Sande, Simple Minds, Dappy and Tinie Tempah – and an American Idol winner at Knebworth – it’s hard to work out who they’re aimed at this year Examining the listings for Knebworth-based rock event Sonisphere , it’s hard to pinpoint who most misjudged Saturday night’s headline slot. Was it Queen for drafting in Adam Lambert as their new singer? Not really, he’s a decent enough warbler.
